The Client Challenge / Background

Air quality plays a crucial role in human health, yet most people have little visibility into the conditions inside their homes. A U.S.-based company set out to change that by creating a smart system capable of monitoring and managing indoor air quality for thousands of households.

To bring this vision to life, they needed a custom-built digital platform connected to hardware sensors and controllers. Most existing hardware suppliers offered proprietary systems with limited flexibility, which created strong dependencies and slowed down issue resolution whenever problems appeared on the supplier side.

From Air to Insight: How Technology is Improving Indoor Health

Why They Reached Us

The client needed a technology partner capable of building an end-to-end ecosystem that could integrate hardware and software seamlessly while allowing full control over performance and scalability.

The decision was made to move toward an in-house hardware approach, using IoT connectivity to unlock full control over functionality, performance, and long-term product evolution.

This meant designing a system where sensors communicate with a central controller using BLE, Wi-Fi, and MQTT lightweight protocol, enabling configuration, updates, and real-time data visualization through a custom platform.

The Goal

Create a fully connected ecosystem linking users, devices, and data, empowering households to monitor and improve their indoor air quality and ultimately live healthier lives.

Hardware-Software Synergy: Fully integrated system built in parallel with in-house hardware development, connected using IoT, BLE and MQTT lightweight protocol.

Challenge

The primary challenge was aligning hardware development and software integration. The client wanted a fully customized solution, but existing hardware providers offered closed systems that limited flexibility. When issues emerged, resolution depended on third-party suppliers, slowing down progress and innovation.

At the same time, the system needed to:

  • Support real-time device communication
  • Provide stable configuration and monitoring
  • Scale across thousands of households
  • Maintain a seamless user experience

Solution

The team transitioned to developing an in-house sensor and integrated it with a custom-built software platform. This shift provided full control over functionality, performance, and scalability.

Using IoT architecture, BLE connectivity, and MQTT protocol, we built a synchronized ecosystem where hardware and software operate as a single system.

We worked closely with the client to ensure continuous alignment between hardware development and platform evolution, resulting in a stable, real-time, and user-friendly solution.

Key actions included:

  • Developing a cross-platform mobile app (iOS and Android) using React Native.
  • Building a backend with Node.js and Express.js, connected to MongoDB and DynamoDB.
  • Designing a device management interface for configuration, updates, and data visualization.
  • Implementing reliable communication between sensors and controllers using BLE, Wi-Fi, and MQTT
From Air to Insight: How Technology is Improving Indoor Health

1. Discovery & Architecture We defined system requirements and established the architecture connecting hardware, cloud infrastructure, and user interfaces.

2. Integration & Testing Our team collaborated closely with the client’s hardware engineers to synchronize in-house sensors with the digital ecosystem, ensuring stable communication and reliable data flow.

3. Expansion & Optimization Once the hardware foundation was stabilized, we expanded platform capabilities with new monitoring modes, advanced data insights, and maintenance alerts.
